How to propagate the flower

How to propagate the flower

Propagation by division

Division propagation is often used for double-petaled varieties, and is carried out after leaf fall in autumn and before budding in spring.

When propagating Deutzia by division, the mother plant does not need to be dug out. Use a knife or shovel to dig it directly from the soil, and separate the new plants from the mother plant for transplanting. It is best if each of the separated tubers has 1-2 branches, so that they are easier to survive.

The mother plant left in the soil can be divided until the second year.

Cutting propagation

Cutting propagation is generally done by cutting young branches during the rainy season, using thick branches grown that year, leaving half of the leaves on the cuttings, 12-45 cm long, and inserting them in brown soil, mature soil or sandy soil. If inserted in the open field, shade should be provided to prevent drying.

It is carried out in early spring, using hardwood cuttings, unsprouted one-year-old branches.

Seed propagation

The seed propagation of Deutzia odorata is suitable for single-petal varieties, which take about 20 days to germinate after sowing.

Seed propagation is generally used when propagating single-petal original seeds in large quantities.

After the seeds are harvested, they need to be stored in sandy soil at a low temperature of 5°C for 1-2 months and sown in the spring of the following year.

After spreading the seeds evenly in the soil, cover them with fine soil and straw. After the seedlings emerge, build a shed to provide shade to prevent direct sunlight.
