The correct cultivation method of Brazilian wood

The correct cultivation method of Brazilian wood

The Brazilian wood, also known as the Dracaena fragrans, is famous for its bright green leaves and strong vitality, making it an ideal indoor foliage plant. Many friends cannot raise it well because they do not master the correct breeding methods. Let’s learn the correct way to grow rubber trees.

1. Suitable lighting

The rubber tree has strong adaptability, likes light and is also shade-tolerant, and the most suitable growth temperature is 20-30℃. In spring, autumn and winter, it can be placed in diffuse light to enjoy direct sunlight in the morning and evening; in summer, it needs to be shaded by 50% to avoid direct sunlight.

2. Reasonable watering

The rubber tree is drought-tolerant but not water-tolerant. Do not water it too much or too frequently. Keep the soil in the pot moist and avoid waterlogging. Water once a day in spring, summer and autumn, preferably in the early morning or evening in summer.

3. Apply fertilizer at the right time

During the growing season (May-October), apply organic fertilizer and nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer to promote the growth of branches and leaves. Golden or silver-colored varieties should be fertilized with more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers and less nitrogen fertilizers to prevent excessive growth.

4. Proper pruning

During the growing season, prune dead branches and leaves to maintain a beautiful plant shape and avoid nutrient waste. Pruning should not be done in summer and winter to avoid damaging the plants.

5. Soil selection

Choose loose, breathable, well-drained, humus-rich acidic soil, such as a mixture of coconut bran and river sand. Replace the potting soil every 2-3 years to keep the roots active.

6. Notes

Check the plants regularly and spray pesticides to control them if you find pests such as scale insects or red spiders. The rubber tree is not cold-resistant. The indoor temperature should be kept above 8-10℃ in winter and avoid falling below 5℃.

After pruning, apply appropriate fertilizer to supplement nutrients and promote wound healing. Spray the pruning wound with carbendazim solution for disinfection, apply wood ash, and place it in a cool and ventilated place.

The above are the maintenance methods and precautions for the rubber tree. Only if you do these well, the rubber tree will be able to thrive and have bright green leaves.
