How to store the seeds of Osmanthus fragrans

How to store the seeds of Osmanthus fragrans

How to pack

It is usually packaged in polyethylene-aluminum foil composite film bags, covered with paper seed bags.

When sealing the bag, draw a vacuum or semi-vacuum state to reduce the amount of oxygen in the container.

The outside of the bag should clearly indicate the name of the seeds, the year, month, day of harvesting, and the expiration date.

If the number of seeds is relatively small, you can choose to store them in a dryer, put quicklime, silica gel, dry wood ash, charcoal, etc. at the bottom as a desiccant, and then seal it.

Preserved environment

Be sure to maintain a low temperature and low humidity environment for seed storage to prevent the seeds from mildewing or causing a decrease in seed germination rate.

The bags should be stored in a dry, sealed environment with the temperature controlled at 2℃-5℃. The seed bags should be placed on a shelf about 50 cm from the ground, not directly touching the ground to prevent moisture.

The seeds of Osmanthus fragrans can be preserved for about 5-6 years.

Precautions

The storage location must be disinfected in advance, and any garbage, fertilizers, pesticides, etc. around must be cleaned up. A layer of tarpaulin paper should be laid on the ground as a moisture-proof layer to reduce the absorption of ground moisture by the seeds.

If it is stored in a warehouse, it is also required. Dilute 80% DDT emulsifiable concentrate and spray it. Close doors and windows for 48-72 hours and then ventilate the room for 24 hours, but do not use fumigation chamber.

Seeds will generate a lot of heat when they breathe, so it is necessary to cool down and dissipate moisture regularly, ventilate more on sunny days, keep it well sealed in rainy and snowy weather, and ventilate more in winter. You can choose to open windows for ventilation every morning and evening, but not at noon.

The moisture content and germination rate of the seeds should also be tested after they have oversummered or overwintered. You can set up more thermometers and hygrometers at the storage location, conduct regular inspections, and keep records.
