Planting season

The growth pattern of the butterfly grass is similar to that of ordinary crops, with planting in spring and harvesting in autumn. Therefore, of course, the best time to sow is spring when everything comes back to life.

The temperature needs to be above 20℃ when the seeds germinate, and they need to be sown in a plastic shed in early spring to keep warm so that they can germinate evenly. If the temperature is suitable, it will germinate about 1 week after sowing.

Seedling Management

Seedling division: After the cotyledons of the plant unfold, the seedlings are divided and planted in plug trays. This process is commonly known as seedling division. The most suitable depth for transplanting seedlings is to make the two cotyledons 2 to 3 cm above the soil surface. After transplanting the seedlings, spray them evenly with a sprinkler immediately.

Water: If the weather is fine, you can water it every other day. On cloudy or rainy days, you can extend the watering interval appropriately according to the dryness and wetness of the substrate. After the second pair of true leaves of the butterfly flower grow out, you can carry out the dry-wet cycle. That is, when the substrate is very dry but the seedlings have not yet wilted, water the seedlings thoroughly, and repeat this cycle.

Fertilization: The best time to fertilize the butterfly flower is to apply fertilizer every other time you water it. That is, after each watering, wait until the substrate becomes slightly dry before applying fertilizer.

Planting seedlings in pots

Pots: Because the plant of Cleome is relatively large, choose an 18×18 cm pot for transplanting. After transplanting, there is no need to repot during the entire growing season.

Potting: When potting, first fill the pot with the prepared substrate, dig a hole in the center of the substrate with your fingers, then take the spider plant seedling out of the hole and place it in the dug hole. Cleome is suitable for shallow planting, and the best planting depth is that the substrate just covers the roots of the seedlings. The filled substrate should be kept 1 cm away from the edge of the pot to facilitate watering later. Water thoroughly immediately after transplanting.
