When is the best time to transplant a banyan tree (the time and precautions for transplanting a banyan tree)

Before transplanting the banyan tree, the flowerpot and new soil should be disinfected and sterilized in advance. After transplanting the banyan tree, pay attention to laying some broken tiles at the bottom of the flowerpot, and then fill the flowerpot with loose, breathable, well-drained acidic soil and gently press it, and then you can straighten the banyan tree and plant it in the flowerpot.

Banyan tree transplanting time

The survival rate of banyan trees is the highest in April-July every year , because the climate during this period is relatively mild , about 25 degrees, and the air humidity is higher. In addition, during this period, it will catch up with the plum rain season, the amount of rainfall will be heavy , and the speed of tree stump rooting and sprouting will also be very fast. It is most suitable to transplant banyan trees under such climatic conditions.

Banyan tree transplanting method

1. Remove from the basin

If you want to repot a potted banyan tree, the first step is to remove the plant completely from the old pot . We can do this 2-3 days after the last watering, gently tap the pot wall with your palm to loosen the soil near the pot wall, then remove the entire plant, discard the remaining soil at the bottom, and leave only the soil bag at the roots.

2. Pruning

After we remove the plant from the old pot, we first comb the root system a little bit and remove a small part of the outermost layer of the old soil wrapped around the root system . Carefully observe the development and health of the root system, find the dead roots, rotten roots, and dead roots on the root system, cut them off and disinfect them , place them in a cool place to dry slightly, and wait for the wound to shrink.

3. Disinfection

If we still use old flower pots, we need to scrub and air them to remove the residual soil inside. New pots do not need to be scrubbed, but both new and old pots must be disinfected and sterilized. Thoroughly soak and rinse them with disinfectant solution to ensure that the harmful bacteria in the pots are killed.

4. Transplanting

After preparing the flowerpot and the plant, we can apply some rooting powder to the root cut of the plant , and then plant it in the new pot soil . After covering the soil and compacting the plant, water it for the first time. Do not water too much, just keep the soil slightly moist. Then move the plant to a place with sufficient light and good ventilation for maintenance.

Banyan tree transplanting management

Banyan trees do not need to be watered immediately after transplanting, but they should not be left for too long. Generally, they can be watered thoroughly after a few hours . Fertilizers should not be applied blindly after transplanting. Fertilizers should be applied after new roots grow, which takes about 3 months.

Finally, please note that the banyan tree needs to be placed in a cool place and not exposed to direct sunlight. Only after it adapts to the new environment can it be exposed to the sun in moderation.
