How to sow evening primrose

How to sow evening primrose

Time Selection

In the north, seeds are sown in spring, and in areas south of the Huaihe River, seeds are sown and seedlings are raised in autumn or spring.

The autumn sowing period is from mid-October to before freezing, and the spring sowing can be chosen before sowing wheat, after the soil thaws. <

Matrix disinfection

Before sowing, the substrate must be disinfected. The best way is to heat it at high temperature to kill all the pathogens and pests in the soil.

First put a 2-3 cm thick coarse-grained substrate or expanded clay in the flowerpot as a water filter layer, sprinkle a layer of fully decomposed organic fertilizer as base fertilizer, about 1-2 cm thick, and then cover it with a layer of substrate, about 1-2 cm thick.

Seed treatment

Before sowing, soak the seeds in warm water for 3-10 hours until the seeds absorb water and swell. This will help increase the germination rate of the seeds.

Specific steps

Because the seeds of evening primrose are relatively small, you can wet one end of a toothpick, pick up the seeds one by one and place them on the surface of the substrate.

Then cover with soil, about 1 cm thick, and then put the seed pot into water. The depth of the water should be one-half to two-thirds of the height of the pot, and let the water slowly soak up.

Subsequent management

After sowing, water with a sprayer when the soil in the pot is slightly dry.

After sowing in the autumn, when encountering cold waves and low temperatures, you can wrap the flower pots with plastic film to keep warm and moisturize; after the seedlings emerge from the soil, remove the film in time and expose the seedlings to sunlight before 9:30 am every day or after 3:30 pm, otherwise the seedlings will grow very weakly.

When most of the seedlings have grown 3 or more leaves, they can be transplanted into pots.
