How to grow vinca roseus in winter

How to grow vinca roseus in winter

Heating maintenance method

sowing

Catharanthus roseus usually matures from August to October, and can be picked and sown in the Year of the Monkey. When the seeds are mature, it is very simple to scatter the seeds in your own flowerpot, press the seeds into the soil, and slowly the seedlings will grow. When the seedlings grow 3 to 4 leaves, they can be transplanted into a pot with fertile soil and watered every 3 to 5 days.

Pot soil requirements

It is best to choose soil rich in humus, so that after the seedlings survive, they can bloom from May to November of the following year, with flowers every day. If the soil is not very fertile, you can apply appropriate amounts of phosphorus and potassium fertilizers to promote flowering of the plants, but as long as the temperature is suitable in winter, the seedlings will grow well.

Winter maintenance

If it is not a seedling grown that year, after the flowers fade in November, the branches will gradually become thinner because the nutrients will be exhausted, and the leaves will move upward from the roots. At this time, it is necessary to prune them in time and cut off the overly long and diseased branches.

Changing the soil is necessary. Usually, the soil of Catharanthus roseus needs to be changed once a year to ensure sufficient nutrients in the soil. If the soil is changed in time, there is no need to apply fertilizer. The nutrients in the soil are enough for the vinca roseus to recover after the flowers fade.

Maintenance method without heating

Insulation

Without heating, the temperature in the house is around 10℃, which is relatively okay. It’s just that the temperature is lower at night, so you need to pay attention to keeping warm. You can cover it with plastic film or put it in a transparent box. In short, it is necessary to ensure a certain temperature difference in winter, but the plants must not be frozen.

Plenty of sunlight

During the day, as long as it is sunny, you can place vinca roseus in a sunny place and let it get more sun, which will help accumulate nutrients.

Fertilization

In winter, vinca needs proper nutrient supplementation. After the flowers fade, the growth of the plant will slow down. You can apply some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers appropriately. Choose a clear noon and water the plant appropriately after fertilizing.
