Ornamental pineapples cannot reproduce? With these three tricks, one pot becomes multiple pots!

Ornamental pineapples cannot reproduce? With these three tricks, one pot becomes multiple pots!

1. Seed propagation

1. Obtaining seeds

Usually, the seeds of many ornamental pineapples will quickly lose their vitality after being separated from the mother plant, so when we collect seeds, we must collect and sow them immediately. It usually takes 3 to 4 months from flowering to seed maturity. Because its seeds are very small, each fruit can produce dozens of seeds, not to mention the number of seeds on a single plant, which may be thousands. After collecting the seeds, we can start planting.

2. Sowing substrate

Before planting, we need to select the substrate, which is generally made by mixing river sand, perlite and peat soil. Then we sterilize it with high temperature before planting.

3. Planting seeds

We sow the seeds one by one on the surface of the substrate, and then press them gently. There is no need to cover them with soil, just cover them with a layer of film or glass to keep them moist. Then control the temperature between 24 and 26 degrees, and it will basically germinate in 7 to 14 days.

2. Division propagation

This method is generally carried out in spring, because the temperature at this time is not very high, so it is conducive to survival. So how do you divide the plants? We all know that many small buds will grow at its base. When they grow 5 to 6 leaves, they can be cut off and planted separately. Basically, fibrous roots will grow in a month.

3. Cutting propagation

If we want to use this method to propagate, it is best to do it when we change the pot in spring. First, we cut a small stem from its mother plant, and then we can plant it in the soil, or we can use the tender shoots sprouted from its old plant to divide it. No matter which one, we must remember to shade the cuttings and keep them moist and warm. In addition, when choosing the soil for cuttings, we usually use a mixture of leaf mold and plain sand. Then, when the roots of these cuttings grow to 2 to 3 cm, we can plant them.
