How to grow loofah with high yield?

Luffa , a climbing plant originating from the tropics, is known as "beauty water" for its rich content of vitamin C and minerals and is widely loved by consumers on the dining table. Luffa has strong adaptability and high planting benefits, and is grown in various places. In order to improve the yield and quality of loofah, we must learn the planting techniques well. So how to grow loofah with high yield?

1. Precision seeding

Luffa, a heat-tolerant and thermophilic member of the plant kingdom, is particularly picky about temperature. The most suitable temperature for its growth is 20-30℃. Its growth will be hindered if the temperature is lower than 12℃, and it will be life-threatening if the temperature is lower than 5℃. Especially when it is flowering and fruiting, it can remain calm even when the temperature exceeds 35℃. Therefore, the best time to sow loofah is to wait until the average daily temperature stabilizes above 15℃. There is an old saying that goes, "Young loofah seedlings fear frost, but it is not too late to sow them in the beginning of summer." This is the reason. When planting outdoors, you may want to cover the ground with mulch to give the loofah babies a warm coat and help them grow healthily.

2. Water Management

Luffa loves water, especially during the flowering and fruiting period, the soil moisture needs to be maintained above 70%, and it is better to leave 10 to 20 cm of water in the ditch. Under drought, not only will the growth of loofah slow down, but its quality will also be greatly reduced. However, moderate water control during the seedling stage can make the root system stronger and prevent excessive growth. Remember: "Dry the water before growing the melons to nourish the roots, and water the water after growing the melons to nourish the body."

3. Scientific fertilization

The continuous fruiting ability of loofah is inseparable from sufficient nutrient support. The base fertilizer should be sufficient, and well-rotted farmyard manure is the first choice; apply nitrogen fertilizer or well-rotted thin manure water lightly in the seedling stage; after flowering and fruiting, triple compound fertilizer is needed, 25 to 30 kilograms per mu, combined with potassium dihydrogen phosphate foliar spraying, once every 10 days, to ensure yield, improve quality, and prevent premature aging with miraculous effects. After harvesting, apply composted manure water again to store energy for the next harvest.

4. Disease prevention and control

Luffa is susceptible to powdery mildew, leaf blight, etc. Crop rotation is used to avoid diseases, and seed disinfection is the first step in prevention. Once the disease is discovered, the right medicine should be used in time, such as mancozeb to treat powdery mildew, agricultural streptomycin to fight leaf blight, and metalaxyl to fight blight.

5. Avoid Misconceptions

Avoid excessive application of nitrogen fertilizer: Although nitrogen fertilizer promotes growth, excessive application will cause excessive growth and few fruits, and increase the risk of diseases and pests. Apply in appropriate amounts, combined with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

Avoid overcrowding: Loofah plants are tall and need sufficient space. With high ridge cultivation, reasonable density of planting, good ventilation and light, there are naturally fewer diseases and pests.

Avoid picking too late: Pick the loofah at the right time to preserve nutrients, avoid fibrosis, and ensure the best flavor and quality. Bend the loofah and use small stones to hang it straight to improve product quality.

In short, mastering the loofah planting technology and scientific management will increase the probability of achieving high yields. If you have other questions, please continue to leave a message.
