How to prune morning glory

How to prune morning glory

Topping

Morning glory has a very low propagation capacity and can mostly be grown from seeds. When the seedlings grow 3 to 4 leaves and vines begin to grow in the center, the first pinching should be started. After a period of time, vines will begin to grow between the leaves. When 3 to 4 leaves grow, pinch off the top again.

Note: Each time you pinch the tops of the plants, you need to apply fertilizer in time. When applying fertilizer and watering, try to stay close to the ground and do not dirty the leaves to avoid causing them to fall off.

Remove the buds

Morning glory grows rapidly and can bloom in the same year after planting. Flower buds will grow between the branches. After the flower buds are formed, the stipules under the flower buds can be cut off to promote their development. To ensure adequate nutrient supply, you can also pick off some small flower buds.

After flowering, pick off the withered flowers in time. If properly controlled and the temperature is suitable, morning glory can bloom 3 to 4 times a year.

Plastic surgery

Potted plants: For indoor ornamental potted plants, you can set up a support when the seedlings grow to 6 cm in height to allow them to grow around, or when the seedlings grow to 7 to 8 leaves, leave 4 leaves and pinch the top to ensure that there are no more than 9 flower buds per potted plant. This will ensure that the plant is full. If conditions permit, you can also use hanging baskets for planting, hang them in the air, and trim them regularly.

Ground planting: Morning glory planted in the courtyard can be used as a hedge decoration. The principle of pruning is to ensure that each branch grows evenly. When 9 vines have grown, they can be evenly distributed on the wall and tied up. Let them grow, and hedges and flower walls will soon be formed.
