How to reproduce the spotted tongue orchid

Propagation method of spotted tongue orchid: division

It can be carried out in spring and autumn, and is generally divided every three years.

Any plant that grows healthily and has dense pseudobulbs can be divided. After division, at least 5 connected pseudobulbs should be preserved in each clump.

Before dividing the plants, reduce watering to keep the soil in the pot drier. When potting after division, first cover the hole at the bottom of the pot with broken tiles, then spread coarse gravel, occupying 1/5 to 1/4 of the depth of the pot , then add coarse-grained soil and a small amount of fine soil, and then plant with sandy loam rich in humus.

The planting depth after division should be such that a 2 cm edge is left at the edge of the pot. Cover with green cloud grass or fine stones, and finally water thoroughly. Place in a shaded place for 10-15 days, keep the soil moist, gradually reduce watering, and carry out normal maintenance .

Orchid seeds are extremely small, with only an underdeveloped embryo inside. Their germination ability is very low, and the seed coat does not easily absorb water. They cannot germinate using conventional sowing methods, so they need orchid bacteria or artificial culture media to supply nutrients in order to germinate. Orchids are hard to come by, and famous ones are even more precious!

It is best to choose fruits that have not yet cracked for sowing. After sterilizing the surface with 75% alcohol, take out the seeds, soak them in 10% sodium hypochlorite for 5-10 minutes, take them out and rinse them 3 times with sterile water. Then sow them in a culture bottle containing culture medium, and then place them in a dark culture room. Keep the temperature at around 25 °. After germination, move them to the light to form protocorms. It takes half a year to a year from sowing to transplanting.

The best way to propagate is by division, so that one pot of orchids can become two pots, and then three pots, slowly filling the indoor and outdoor areas with fragrance, giving you a refreshing enjoyment.
