1. TimeIt can be done in spring, summer and autumn, as long as the temperature is greater than 15 degrees, there is no problem. The high temperature in summer is actually no problem, and the germination rate is not greatly affected. 2. Blade selectionAny leaves broken off from healthy plants will do. Some leaves may be a little wilted or soft, but as long as they are handled well, they can successfully germinate. 3. Soil selectionThere are actually not many requirements for the soil for leaf cuttings. My soil mixture is humus soil: coal slag 6:4. Why do I use more humus soil? Because in my experience, leaf cuttings need to retain water, heat and moisture, and the seedlings need a lot of nutrients after emerging from the soil. However, the seedlings are relatively fragile and cannot be fertilized. The fertility of humus soil can make up for this gap. 4. Soil treatmentAfter I prepare the soil ratio, I will spread it out in the sun for 2-3 days, then spray the soil completely with 1:1000 carbendazim until it is moist, then cover it with a film, continue to expose it to the sun for 2-3 days, and then remove the film and expose it to the sun for 1-2 days. To allow the soil enough time to sterilize. 5. Blade treatmentFor freshly collected leaves, soak them in 1:1000 carbendazim for 10 minutes, then expose them to the sun for 2-3 hours to allow the wound to heal sufficiently, then place them in a sunny and ventilated place for 3-4 days, preferably even longer, but the longest time should not exceed 7 days. 6. Potting soilI use a large shed, 20x30cm, with no holes under the pots. The soil thickness is generally 3-5cm. After the soil is filled, smooth it out, and then spray the soil with 1:1000 of carbendazim until it is moist but not waterlogged. 7. Lay the leavesGenerally speaking, it is not recommended to insert leaves into the soil, because many novices do not have enough time to treat the wounds of the leaves when doing leaf cuttings, and the soil is not disinfected, which will cause bacterial infection when inserted into the soil, and then the leaves will rot. The method I adopted is to lay it directly on top. 8. One week before emergenceSpray water once every 3 days to keep the soil moist, do not water it too hard, then cover the pot with a film (or not), and poke a few holes on it. 9. Covering filmAfter about a week, the leaves will take root or sprout. At this time, you can cover the plant with a film during the day and uncover it at night for ventilation. As long as the seedlings emerge, you can spray water every night. 10. Water sprayGenerally, after the leaves have sprouted in batches, which is about half a month, you can remove the film and spray water every day. The seedlings have vigorous growth and strong resistance, so there is no need to worry that they will die from too much water. 11. ManagementManagement is much easier after the seedlings emerge. When the surface soil is dry, you can spray water. Then, generally, you can do leaf cuttings in spring and pot them normally in autumn. It is not recommended to repot young seedlings. Especially in summer, you have to hold back. 12. NoteSome leaves are still fine and not rotten after a month. These leaves will still take root and sprout as long as the environment is suitable. So there is no need to worry that the leaves will rot due to being cold for a long time. Don't worry, the leaves will be fine after a month. Even if the leaves are curled up, the roots will still emerge and drill into the soil. |
