How to propagate Pilea

Cuttings

Cutting time: Cutting can be carried out in spring or summer. It is not suitable for cuttings when the temperature is high in summer, but cuttings can be taken in winter, but the indoor temperature is lower and the growth is slower. Usually cuttings can be taken at temperatures between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius.

Soil for cuttings: It is difficult to find the soil you like for home cuttings. It is recommended to buy soil that has already been prepared and sterilized. Or you can go to the mountain to dig some coarse sand and rinse it several times with clean water before use. Do not use the soil dug from saline-alkali land, as it is not conducive to the rooting of flowers and will affect the growth of flowers.

Cuttings: Select healthy branches of Pilea coleus, cut 5 to 8 cm of the stems and leaves at the front, keep a few leaves at the front, and insert them directly into a sand bed with vermiculite or plain sand as the matrix, or cut them into potting soil mixed with peat and soil. The depth of burial should not exceed 2 cm. Place it in a semi-shaded place, keep the soil temperature at 18 to 20 degrees Celsius, spray water with a watering can when it is dry. It will take root in about 2 to 3 weeks and can be transplanted or potted after 1 to 2 months.

Division

The Pilea coleus has a strong clumping habit. You can take the plant out of the pot and repot it by changing the soil. You can divide it into several clumps and at the same time shorten the old stems, retaining 2 to 3 sections of the stem, and plant them in separate pots. After it survives, new branches will sprout soon!
