Introduction of Camellia

Introduction of Camellia

1. Appearance characteristics

Camellia flowers are large and grow at the tops of branches. There are 6-7 petals, which are relatively round and mostly bright red. Its leaves are leathery, elliptical, oval, etc. in shape, with serrated edges. The leaves are dark green and shiny on the front and lighter on the back.

2. Growth habits

Camellia is widely distributed in the southern region of my country and prefers a humid and warm climate. It is not suitable to be cultivated in a dry environment, and too high temperature will also inhibit its growth. In summer, avoid direct sunlight to avoid burning the leaves.

3. Variety classification

There are many varieties of camellia in my country, about 300 varieties, and there are records of its cultivation since the Three Kingdoms period. According to the flower shape, it is divided into three types: single petal, double petal and triple petal. Among them, the single-petal types have about 5-7 petals, in 1-2 whorls. The double-petal type has between 20-50 petals and 3-5 wheels. The double-petaled ones have more than 50 petals, and those with more petals can reach 18-20 petals.

4. Daily maintenance

Provide plenty of light every day, but provide appropriate shade in summer. The temperature is controlled between 18-25℃, and the flowering period is around 10-20℃. Use acidified water for watering. Do not water too much, and do not keep it dry for a long time. Fertilization varies according to the seasons. Apply thin fertilizer once every 17 days in spring, apply more phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in summer, and apply liquid fertilizer once a week in autumn and winter.
