How to graft a fortune tree

How to graft a fortune tree

Grafting method

Rootstock and scion

The rootstock is a 2-year-old, braided seedling of the fortune tree, and the scion is a 1-year-old strong branch from a mother tree that has already blossomed and produced fruits.

Time and method

Grafting time

Grafting is usually carried out in mid-February every year, and the cleft grafting method is used.

Specific methods

Select strong branches and leaves, leaving 1 to 2 buds, and make an oblique cut on both sides of the lower end of the buds to make the cut surface into a right wedge shape.

The rootstock is cut 40 cm from the ground, and a vertical cut is made downward in the center of the section, the length of which is equal to the cut surface of the scion.

Insert the scion into the cut of the rootstock. It should be noted here that if the rootstock is larger than the scion, the scion can be moved to one side so that the cambium of the two are aligned.

After connecting, tie it tightly with film tape and put a film bag upside down to prevent rain from wetting the joint. New shoots will grow in about a month, and the bags and bands can be removed at this time.

Post-grafting care

The money tree likes a warm and humid environment, sunny and slightly shaded. However, within 1 to 2 weeks after grafting, ensure that the air is relatively dry, water less, and maintain normally after germination.

After the leaves grow, move the plant to a place with better light for maintenance, spray water on the leaves frequently and maintain high humidity. Water more during the growing season and less in winter.
