What to do if the leaves of Hibiscus truncatum turn yellow

The watering of small hibiscus should be appropriate

The primary reason why the leaves of hibiscus turn yellow is water. Because most hibiscus trees have weak root systems, they can easily become dehydrated and dry out due to the roots being too dry.

Therefore, as soon as the soil in the pot is dry, you need to add water to it immediately. The rainy season in the south of the Yangtze River with high temperature and heavy rain in summer is the peak period of yellow leaves. Do not water too much at this time to prevent water accumulation in the pot and cause yellow leaves.

Potted plants should be moved to a well-ventilated place with scattered light to increase water evaporation, especially old seedlings that have grown for more than two years, which are more likely to dry out due to lack of water. Be sure to develop a good habit of watering.

Small hibiscus has sufficient light

Insufficient light is also an important reason why the leaves of hibiscus turn yellow. Hibiscus likes light, so in spring and autumn, it needs to be moved to a ventilated and lighted place. Direct sunlight will increase its growth rate. The stronger the light, the faster it grows.

In the hot summer, the hibiscus needs to be transplanted to the indoor balcony, away from direct sunlight, ensuring sufficient scattered light and timely replenishment of water; in winter, the hibiscus requires less light during its dormant period, so just keep the indoor temperature suitable.

Pruning and fertilizing of small hibiscus

Hibiscus truncatum blooms most vigorously in spring and needs to be pruned promptly after the flowers bloom, with the branches cut back to one-quarter. After pruning, add nitrogen fertilizer to the hibiscus, prune the branches to an appropriate degree, and change to applying liquid fertilizer containing phosphorus and potassium, and apply thin fertilizer frequently to ensure the good growth of the hibiscus and prevent the leaves from turning yellow.
