What are the ways to propagate Wisteria?

Cutting propagation

Branch Selection

Wisteria flowers are usually propagated by hardwood cuttings. Usually wisteria flowers take 1 to 2 years to grow, and the newly sprouted branches are selected in mid-March. Cut off 15 cm spikes.

Soil preparation

To be more professional, you need to prepare a seedbed, which is the flower pots and potting soil. Wisteria has longer rhizomes, so prepare deeper potting soil.

Cuttings

In fact, the method of cuttings is very simple. Just insert the branches into the soil. The depth of the cuttings is usually 3/2 of the branches.

Cutting care

After cuttings, spray water immediately, strengthen maintenance, and try to keep the soil in the pot moist to increase the survival rate. As long as it is properly maintained, the plant height can reach 20~50cm in the same year, and it can grow into a strong plant after two years.

Rooting

The main method of root cutting is to choose wisteria roots with many adventitious buds and directly propagate them. In mid-March, dig out 1-2 cm thick roots, cut them into 10-12 cm pieces, and insert them into the flowerpot. The depth of the cuttings should be level with the cut on the roots. Other maintenance measures are the same as those for cuttings.

Seed propagation

Seed propagation, like cuttings, will be carried out in March.

First, you need to select the seeds, harvest the seeds in November, remove the outer peel, dry them, and then store them in bags.

In March, select fuller seeds and soak them in hot water. When the water temperature drops to 30℃, take out the seeds and rinse them in cold water.

Wrap it in a damp cloth, leave it overnight, and sow the seeds directly the next day.
