How do pitcher plants overwinter?

How do pitcher plants overwinter?

Temperature requirements for wintering

Nepenthes likes a warm environment, but is afraid of cold. A slightly larger temperature difference does not matter, as long as the temperature is controlled at 10~15℃. Remember that the temperature cannot be lower than 10℃ and cannot be higher than 35℃.

Water requirements for wintering

The moisture here refers to watering and air humidity. The temperature in winter is relatively low, so the amount of watering should be controlled and reduced compared to other seasons. But the air humidity should still be maintained and water should be sprinkled around the plants frequently.

How to Overwinter Pitcher Plants

First point

The temperature in the south is relatively high in winter. If the temperature meets the standard, it can be placed outdoors for maintenance. When the temperature is below 10℃, you can consider moving it indoors.

Second point

It is cold in the north in winter and there will be ice outside. When you put the pitcher plant indoors for maintenance, do not put it next to the window. The temperature is low, there is heavy moisture around the window, and the temperature on the side near the window is low, which is not conducive to the growth of the pitcher plant.

Third Point

Move it outdoors in the morning when the sun comes out, and move it indoors in the evening to ensure that it can receive sunlight during the day. The sun is weaker in winter, so you can generally bask in the sun all day. If you want to let the pitcher plant spend the night outdoors, of course you can wrap the entire pitcher plant with plastic film and then wrap it with a layer of newspaper (which should be thicker) to prevent it from freezing.

Fourth point

If you are in the north and have sufficient funds and time, you can use a heating rod to increase the temperature appropriately. Of course, there is less sunlight in winter, so you can use artificial lighting, such as fluorescent lamps (which still cost a certain amount!)
