How to divide hyacinth bulbs

How to divide hyacinth bulbs

Bulb propagation

The method of dividing the bulbs of hyacinth is very simple, there are no complicated steps, and you can do it with your bare hands:

According to the method in the picture above, break off the bulbs that are clearly grown, and try to ensure that the small bulbs are intact. After breaking it off, plant it in separate pots.

Precautions

When to pass the ball

The bulb division rate of hyacinth is relatively low. Usually, the mother plant can only produce 1 to 2 bulblets one year after planting. The hydroponic culture of hyacinths is more intuitive as you can see the bulbs directly. When there are many small bulbs around the big bulb, you can divide the bulbs! As for hyacinths grown in soil, the bulbs can only be taken out and observed after the flowers have faded.

When will the bulbs bloom?

After dividing the bulbs, the large bulbs will have more space to grow. With proper watering and fertilization, they will bloom in the spring of next year. However, the bulblets are small in size and take a long time to grow. Under normal care, they will not bloom until three years later.

How to grow a ball

Hyacinth bulblets grow slowly and can be artificially processed to help the growth of the bulblets and increase the reproduction coefficient.

During the summer dormancy period, the large bulbs are castrated. In early August, a part of the bottom of the bulb is evenly dug out, and then a cut is made vertically and horizontally to make a cross shape. The depth of the cut is until mucus flows out.

After cutting with a knife, apply mercury water to the incision for disinfection. After exposing it to the sun for 1 to 2 hours, move it indoors and lay it flat.

During the maintenance period, the room temperature should reach 21°C to allow the bulb to produce callus tissue itself. When the scales expand, raise the temperature to 30°C and the humidity to 85%. Many small bulbs will be formed in about 3 months. Such bulbs will bloom 3 to 4 years after being divided!
