Phalaenopsis propagation methods and techniques

Flower stalk germination method

Specific operation method

First, cut off the part of the pedicel that blooms, and then carefully use a blade to cut off the bracts between the first and third nodes at the top of the pedicel, leaving the buds in the internodes exposed;

Use a cotton swab to evenly apply germination agent or hormones such as indolebutyric acid on the exposed internode buds;

After applying, place the plant in a semi-shaded place and maintain a cultivation temperature of 25-28℃. Generally, after 2-3 weeks, the buds will grow leaves, and after 3 months, they will grow into Phalaenopsis seedlings with 3-4 leaves and aerial roots.

Finally, cut the seedling and pot it to get a new plant.

Heart-breaking Germination Propagation Method

Specific operation method

First remove the highest heart leaf at the top of the stem, and make sure to destroy the growth point on the stem tip so that it can no longer grow upwards.

After the wound is dry, you can apply fungicide to sterilize it. After a period of time, 2-3 new buds will sprout on the stem nodes near the base.

When the new shoots grow up and roots grow at the base, they can be cut off and planted separately to get a new plant.

Stem cutting propagation

Specific operation method

The cutting stem propagation method has a similar working principle to the second method, which is also to induce the growth of latent buds by destroying the growth point of the stem tip.

When the plant has grown to a relatively long stem node, cut off the upper part of the plant with roots with a sterilized blade or scissors, and transplant it to a new pot to continue growing. Give the lower part with the rhizome an appropriate amount of water, and 1-3 new buds will soon sprout (the number depends on the characteristics of the plant and the management method);

If the stem of the plant is long, you can consider cutting it into multiple segments, each with 2-3 internodes, or a segment longer than 2-3 cm and with more than one root, which may develop into a new plant;

If the roots of the plant are already dead, this method will not work.
