Plant the water lily in the soil where it will be planted.

The water level for planting water lilies must be well controlled. Water level control is one of the important factors for whether the cold-resistant water lilies can grow normally. The water level requirements of cold-resistant water lilies vary at different growth stages, so pay attention to controlling the water level. Since water temperature has a direct impact on the growth and flowering of water lilies, in the early growth stage, due to the short petioles, the water level should be as shallow as possible to prevent the leaves from being exposed to the air, so as to increase the water temperature as quickly as possible, promote the growth of the root system, and improve its survival rate;

As the leaves grow, the water level is gradually raised until the peak growth period comes and the water level reaches its maximum value, which causes the petiole to grow and the leaves to become larger, thus helping to store nutrients.

After entering autumn, the water level should be lowered and the water temperature should be increased to allow the leaves to receive sufficient light and enhance photosynthesis, thereby promoting the growth of water lily rhizomes and buds and increasing the number of reproductive bodies in the following year.

When the weather gets cooler, gradually deepen the water level, keeping it below most of the leaves, so as to control the growth of nutrients; before the water surface freezes, the water level must be deepened all at once, depending on the maximum historical ice thickness, to keep the top buds of the water lilies under the ice layer so that they can safely overwinter.
