How to fertilize Clivia

How to fertilize Clivia

Apply base fertilizer

Also called basal fertilizer. The main function of base fertilizer is to create conditions for the development of plants and meet their own nutrient needs. The base fertilizer for Clivia should be applied when repotting, once every two years. Commonly used base fertilizers include: animal manure, green manure, compost, bean cake fertilizer, etc.

method

Mix base fertilizer with the soil before planting.

top dressing

Top dressing is carried out during the growth period of the plants. Commonly used fertilizers include: cake fertilizer, bone meal, fish meal, etc. As the plant grows older, its leaves grow larger and it needs more nutrients. Timely topdressing is beneficial to the growth of the plant.

method

When applying fertilizer, dig up the soil in the pot 2 to 3 centimeters and apply the fertilizer. Be careful not to apply it too close to the root system to avoid damaging the roots. Usually once a month, during the growth period the frequency can be shortened to once every 20 days.

Topdressing with liquid fertilizer

In fact, you don’t need to buy professional liquid fertilizer. You can directly soak the decomposed feces of animals and plants, and dilute the clear liquid with water 20 to 40 times, depending on the size of the seedlings.

Water once 1 to 2 days after fertilizing, in order to allow the liquid fertilizer to penetrate into the root system and better exert the fertilizer effect. Be careful not to water before fertilizing.

Foliar fertilization

When there is insufficient nutrients in the soil and the plant lacks fertilizer and grows slowly, foliar fertilization should be adopted. Commonly used fertilizers include urea, superphosphate, potassium dihydrogen phosphate, etc.

method

Dilute the fertilizer into a solution and spray it directly onto the leaves of the plant. The nutrients will penetrate into the plant through the leaves. When spraying, pay attention to spraying evenly on both sides of the leaves. Usually spray once every 4 to 6 days during the growing season and once every 10 to 15 days in the semi-dormant state, spray after sunrise.
