Dendrobium potted planting methods and precautions Dendrobium domestic planting methods

The cultivation method of Dendrobium is not complicated. As long as we choose the right soil, water and fertilize properly, maintain the right light and temperature, and keep a certain air humidity, we can grow Dendrobium well. The following will explain the cultivation method and precautions of Dendrobium in detail.

Choose the soil

It is best to use loose, breathable and well-drained soil for cultivating Dendrobium. You can choose to mix granular peat, pine bark and gravel in a ratio of 4:4:2.

Suitable matrix

The lower layer should be padded with coarse stones or bricks to facilitate drainage and ventilation, and the middle layer should be padded with smaller stones or broken bricks. Try to choose materials with better water absorption, such as ceramsite, blue stone, and broken bricks, and the upper layer should be padded with fermented pine bark.

Flower Pot Selection

Choose an ordinary flower pot with a diameter of more than 20 cm , and a flower pot with holes at the bottom or around it. The reason is that Dendrobium has aerial roots, which requires the flower pot to have good air permeability and good drainage. Dendrobium potted plants need to be kept moist at all times, so it is recommended to use a ceramic flower pot, which is more durable.

Watering management

Dendrobium likes a humid environment, but you can't water it too much to avoid water accumulation and root rot. When watering, it is best to spray the entire plant to allow the plant to fully absorb water. There is no specific frequency requirement for watering Dendrobium, as long as the soil is kept moist. Watering can be reduced appropriately in cold winter.

Reasonable fertilization

During the growth period of Dendrobium, it is necessary to apply decomposed thin cake fertilizer water once every 7-10 days , and no fertilizer is required during the winter dormancy period.

During the cultivation of Dendrobium, topdressing is done twice a year . The first time is in April, using one or more of oil cakes, oil feet, pig hair, bean dregs or human hair mixed with cow dung, fertilizer mud, magnesium, phosphorus, calcium and a small amount of nitrogen fertilizer. After fermentation, apply thinly to the roots of Dendrobium. The second fertilization in early November promotes growth, and the same fertilization method as above can keep the temperature in winter.

Light temperature

Dendrobium likes a semi-shaded environment. When the light is strong in spring and summer, 60%-70% shading is required. In the winter dormancy period, more light is needed and 20%-30% shading should be applied.

The suitable temperature for Dendrobium growth is between 15-30 degrees Celsius . The temperature in winter should not be lower than 5 degrees Celsius, and the temperature difference between day and night should not exceed 15 degrees Celsius.

Air humidity

Dendrobium is native to tropical rain forests and likes a humid environment. It is best to keep the humidity above 60% and not higher than 90% to avoid diseases and insect pests. In the hot summer, you should often spray water around the plant and increase air circulation to achieve the purpose of moisturizing and heat dissipation.

Replacement of potting soil

When the dendrobium is cultivated for more than 2 to 3 years, the plants are dense, the roots fill the pot, and the potting materials rot. Whether it is evergreen dendrobium or deciduous dendrobium, it is necessary to replace it in time.
