1. Soil selection

It is best to use loose, fertile, well-drained and breathable culture soil with high organic matter content to maintain the dragon beard crisp. Generally, garden soil, leaf mold, decomposed organic fertilizer and river sand are mixed in the ratio of 5:3:1:1.

2. Lighting requirements

The dragon beard tree likes light but tolerates shade. It should be placed in a bright location and needs appropriate shade in summer. When growing indoors, ensure that there is sufficient diffuse light.

3. Temperature control

The temperature requirement of the dragon beard tree is not high and it is suitable for an environment of 20-28℃. Usually strong ventilation is needed when the temperature exceeds 32℃ in summer, and in the north it is better to keep warm indoors in winter and control the temperature above 5℃. In the south, they can overwinter outdoors.

4. Watering tips

The dragon beard tree is a tropical plant and has a certain degree of drought resistance, so it should not be watered too much or too frequently on a daily basis, otherwise it will cause root rot. Generally, wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering. In spring, summer and autumn, water it every 2-3 days. Of course, the frequency of watering is not fixed, and it needs to be determined according to the dryness of the potting soil. If the potting soil is dry, water it in time, and stop watering if the potting soil is moist.

5. Reasonable fertilization

During the growing period, you can apply nitrogen-based fertilizer once a month, and you can also add some phosphorus and potassium fertilizers. It is not advisable to apply fertilizer during the dormant period. The method of fertilization is to mix the solution and irrigate the roots or spray it on the leaves, or bury it one centimeter deep in the soil around the edge of the pot.

6. Trim and clean

Regularly prune yellow or diseased leaves to promote the growth of new leaves and maintain the beautiful shape of the plant. At the same time, wipe the leaves with a damp cloth regularly to remove dust, which will help photosynthesis and maintain the luster of the leaves.

7. Pest and disease control

Common diseases include leaf spot and anthracnose, which can be sprayed with 1000 times diluted 70% methyl thiophanate wettable powder . Insect pests include scale insects and aphids, which can be killed by spraying 1000 times diluted 40% oxydemeton-methyl emulsifiable concentrate.

In general, the dragon beard tree is a super easy plant to grow. Basically, through the above-mentioned maintenance techniques, you can also easily maintain the dragon beard tree and make it a beautiful landscape in your home.
