How to grow camellia to grow well, how to grow camellia

1. Loose soil

For camellia, loose soil is very helpful for the growth of the plant. If it is planted in the ground, it is generally planted in sandy loam with good drainage and certain water retention. If it is a potted plant, you can prepare the potting soil yourself. Generally, it is mixed with mountain soil, sawdust and cake fertilizer powder. The ratio of the three is 5:4:1. The prepared soil needs to be bagged and matured, which usually takes 20-30 days.

2. Proper lighting

Camellia is a semi-shade flower and a long-day plant, so it needs sufficient light, but is afraid of strong light. During the growing season, place it in a semi-shaded environment to prevent strong light from burning its leaves. When the plants enter the flower bud differentiation period in autumn, the daily light time should not be less than 12 hours, otherwise it will affect the formation of flower buds. It should also be placed in a sunny place indoors in winter. If the light is weak, the plant will grow poorly.

3. Watering and moisturizing

Camellia prefers moisture and grows well in an acidic environment. Therefore, alkaline water cannot be used directly for watering. It is necessary to add ferrous sulfate and other substances to acidify it before it can be used for the plants. If it is tap water, you need to leave it for two days and wait for the chlorine to evaporate before watering. Do not water too much, otherwise it will cause root rot. If the environment is relatively dry, you will need to spray water on the leaves to increase humidity.

4. Apply enough fertilizer

When planting camellia, sufficient base fertilizer needs to be applied to continuously provide it with nutrients. During the budding period in spring, apply thin fertilizer and water once every half a month, and supplement with phosphorus and potassium fertilizers in summer. In autumn and winter, due to the rapid growth of flower buds, decomposed liquid fertilizer should be applied once a week, and phosphorus and potassium fertilizers should be applied 1-2 times. Too much nitrogen fertilizer should not be applied, otherwise it will cause the flower buds to wither.
