Is azalea azalea? Is it herbaceous or woody?

1. Is it azalea?

Rhododendron is also called azalea, which is another name for rhododendron. However, there are differences between the two. Not all rhododendrons are azaleas. Only the wild ones are azaleas. Azalea is a type of rhododendron, and there are many varieties of rhododendron, so it cannot be said that rhododendron is azalea.

2. Is it herbaceous or woody?

Rhododendron is a shrub, which is a woody plant. There are many types of rhododendron, about 800 species. Its main origin is in the northern temperate zone. It is now widely distributed in Taiwan, Guangdong, Anhui, Jiangsu and other regions in my country. It grows in sparse mountain thickets or under pine forests.

3. Growth habits

1. Shade-loving: Azalea is a shade-loving plant and does not like an environment with direct sunlight. When raising it, it should be placed in the shade of trees or in a location with slightly weaker light. Especially during the high temperatures in midsummer, avoid direct sunlight as this can easily burn the branches and leaves.

2. Acid-loving: It likes to grow in acidic soil, does not like calcium soil, and should not be grown in alkaline soil, which can easily cause it to grow poorly.

3. Likes moisture: This plant likes to grow in moist soil. Generally, the soil should be kept moist but not wet, and there should be no stagnant water in the soil. It is best to use acidic water when watering, remember not to use alkaline water.
