Why don't irises bloom?

Iris flowering period

The flowering period of irises is generally from April to May. Of course, the flowering period of irises in different regions is also different, and some even bloom in March.

The iris is blue-purple in color, shaped like a butterfly, and has a delicate and elegant fragrance.

Reasons why irises don't bloom

Irises prefer sunny, cool and humid environment, and fertile, well-drained, limestone soil.

According to its growing environment, when it is in a greenhouse with high temperature and weak light, lack of light will prevent the growth of flowers and even cause the flower buds to wither.

The influence of soil temperature. If the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius after planting irises, it will also hinder flowering. Therefore, it is best to keep the soil temperature between 7 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius.

Iris disease is tomato spotted wilt virus, which can cause the leaves of irises to turn yellow, become necrotic, and have yellow spots and stripes on the leaves. In this case, the iris plant will stop growing and will not bloom.

Iris is infected with bud split disease, which will cause the flower buds to wither and prevent the flowers from blooming. If infected with bud split disease, it will exist throughout the entire flowering period.

How to prevent irises from blooming

First of all, when the temperature is high and the light is weak, you must ensure sufficient light and control the soil temperature between 7 and 20 degrees, so as not to affect the nutrients and environment required for flowering.

Secondly, prevent and control tomato spotted wilt virus. Do not plant irises in places where such viruses are present, and remove weeds in a timely manner.

Finally, to prevent and control bud crack disease, you need sufficient light and water supply, and when the temperature is high, you need to heat and ventilate appropriately.
