How to grow cantaloupe

How to grow cantaloupe

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Muskmelon requires relatively high temperature during its growth period. The fruit grown in a high temperature environment will have a thin skin and taste better. Usually the temperature suitable for its growth is between 25 and 35 degrees. If the ambient temperature is higher than 40 degrees, it will face the risk of withering. If it is lower than 13 degrees, it will also experience excessive growth and stagnation.

2. Watering: You need to know how to water the melon. Not too much is needed during the growth period of the seedlings. More water can be applied during the flowering period and the spreading period of the vines. This will allow the plants to grow more vigorously. Reduce the amount of water during the fruit ripening period, otherwise the sweetness of the fruit will be reduced.

3. Light: Muskmelon has the highest demand for light. During the general cultivation period, it needs twelve hours of light every day. Strong light will allow the cantaloupe to accumulate sugar, and the fruit will be sweeter. If there is not enough light, the fruit will be bland, so choose a sunny place before planting.

4. Fertilization: When fertilizing cantaloupe, do not apply too much nitrogen fertilizer. Nitrogen fertilizer will reduce the sweetness. If used excessively, it will also produce some harmful substances. Therefore, more potassium fertilizer can be applied during the fruit ripening period. Potassium fertilizer can make the fruit swell and greatly increase the yield.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Sowing is the main method of reproduction. Sowing is divided into spring sowing and autumn sowing. It can be sown from August to October, or from February to March. But you must pay attention to the distance between the seeds. If they are too dense, you will need to pull out some of them when the plants grow out.

2. Pruning: Muskmelon spreads quickly, so you need to prune the tops of the plants from time to time during their growth. When the vines grow to a certain length, remove their heads to ensure normal fruiting. If not pruned in time, the size of the melon will be affected.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: Powdery mildew often occurs, especially in rainy seasons. It is recommended to use wettable powder to control it as early as possible.

2. Pests: Noctuid moths appear most frequently and will bite newly opened flowers, affecting yield. You can spray a dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane solution to prevent and control them.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is not poisonous. Cantaloupe has high nutritional value and tastes sweet and delicious. It is highly recommended for planting.

2. Can it be grown at home? No, cantaloupe is generally grown on a large scale, and the conditions at home cannot meet its normal growth.
