How to cultivate Taitung Custard Apple

How to cultivate Taitung Custard Apple

1. Soil

When planting it, it is best to use soil with strong water retention, and it is not very strict about the soil quality. If conditions permit, you can use slightly acidic high-quality sandy loam or sandy nutrient soil for planting.

2. Temperature

It is a tropical crop. During the growth period, the temperature should be controlled at around 28°C and the minimum should not be lower than 18°C. Low temperatures can cause it to stop growing and develop, and cause leaf drop problems. It is best to overwinter indoors or in a greenhouse.

3. Watering

Taitung sugar apple needs to be watered frequently during its vigorous growth and development period to ensure that it has water every day. However, do not allow water to accumulate to prevent root rot. Watering once a day is sufficient, and the frequency of watering should be reduced appropriately in winter.

4. Fertilization

To cultivate it, it is necessary to have good control over fertilizer. It is best to fertilize once every half a month, using decomposed organic fertilizer, supplemented with superphosphate and potassium sulfate, to promote plant growth. After winter pruning, apply thick fertilizer to promote the growth of the tree and the formation of the crown in the second year.

5. Notes

1. Pollination: The fruit setting of Taitung sugar apple is greatly affected by climate humidity and insects. Artificial pollination should be carried out during the flowering period to increase the fruit setting rate.

2. Pruning: Shaping and pruning can be done after fruiting to cultivate strong tree vigor and good tree shape and prevent the plant from growing too tall.
