How to sow Cineraria

How to sow Cineraria

Sowing time

Usually mid-August is chosen. Cineraria prefers a cool climate and cannot tolerate high temperatures. The suitable growth temperature is 15℃-20℃. The seed box should be placed under a shade or in the shade of a tree. If sowing is done in ridges, a shade must be built above the ridge soil to reduce the sun's radiant heat.

Cultivation medium

The soil for sowing in the pot is a mixture of 1 part garden soil, 2 parts leaf mold, 2 parts rice husk ash, and a small amount of decomposed base fertilizer and superphosphate.

Sowing method

Mix the seeds with a small amount of fine sand and sow them in a shallow pot, making sure to spread them evenly. After sowing, cover with a layer of fine soil until the seeds are not visible. After sowing, do not use a watering can to spray water to avoid exposing the seeds. You can choose to immerse the pot or spray the pot to make the pot soil completely moist. Cover the pot with glass to keep it moist, but leave a small gap on one side for ventilation. Then place the seed pots under a shade shed, or on the shady side of a cold bed or cold room, paying attention to ventilation and maintaining a low temperature.

Management after emergence

After the seedlings emerge, gradually remove the shade and move the glass to allow the seedlings to gradually receive sunlight, but they must be shaded at noon and can be exposed to full light after two weeks. To prolong the flowering period, you can sow it in pots once every 10 days or so. When the cineraria has 2 leaves, transplant it into a 2-inch pot. When it grows to 6 and 8 leaves, move it into 13 cm and 17 cm pots respectively, and apply fertilizer to promote growth.
