How to plant water spinach by cuttings

Water spinach is a very popular vegetable . It has strong adaptability, grows fast, can be harvested multiple times and has a high yield. In many areas, water spinach is generally propagated by cuttings. Here we will introduce to you the planting method of water spinach by cuttings.

1. Cutting conditions

The water spinach cuttings need to be carried out at a suitable temperature, generally around 25°C, and the air needs to be kept moist, so that the water spinach grown will taste good.

2. Cutting selection

Cuttings are easy to get. We usually like to eat only the leafy part of the water spinach we buy in the market, and pinch off the stems below as cutting materials. These stems need to be cleaned of leaves, leaving only a small section of branches. Use a sterilized knife to cut off the area below the node at the bottom of the branch. It is best not to leave too many hollow parts to avoid rotting in the soil. This way the cuttings are ready.

3. Cutting medium

The soil for planting water spinach should be well-drained and breathable sandy soil, so that it can take root faster and is also conducive to later growth. After the soil is potted, water it thoroughly. Insert the water spinach cuttings into the soil to a depth of 2-3 cm. If you are afraid that directly inserting the branches will affect them, you can poke holes with a wooden stick first, and then insert the branches in, this can reduce damage.

4. Maintenance after cutting

The grafted water spinach needs to be placed in a ventilated and cool place for maintenance first. After it takes root, it can be moved to the sun for maintenance. Water spinach prefers sunlight, so it can grow better this way.

5. Post-management

It will take 7-10 days for the seeds to take root and sprout. In order to promote survival and growth, if there is a long period of high temperature and dry weather, it should be watered thoroughly about a week after planting, and then watered every 10-15 days. At the same time, water spinach is more tolerant of fertilizer , so you should apply some fertilizer to it frequently. At the beginning, you can apply fertilizer after it grows about 5 leaves, and then apply fertilizer every 10 days. Pay attention to applying thin fertilizers frequently. If there is sufficient fertilizer, water spinach will grow faster.
