When is the best time to take cuttings of Epiphyllum?

Epiphyllum cutting time

The plant Epiphyllum is generally propagated by cuttings from March to May, because the weather is cool and the temperature is not high at this time. The survival rate of the plant is high and the rooting is fast after cuttings. It is the best time for Epiphyllum propagation by cuttings.

Epiphyllum cutting method and steps

1. Select branches

You can cut the stems and leaves from a fully mature, well-growing Epiphyllum mother plant as cuttings. The scissors used should be disinfected with permanganate. After washing the cuttings with clean water, place them in a ventilated place to dry.

2. Insert into the soil

Use garden soil, coal ash and sand to prepare the soil. After the soil is ready, you can start cuttings. Poke a small hole on the surface of the soil, insert the branch of Epiphyllum about one-third, gently compact the surrounding soil, and sprinkle some rooting powder in the soil.

Maintenance matters after cutting of Epiphyllum

After the Epiphyllum is grafted, it needs to be placed in a cool, ventilated place with scattered light for maintenance. Do not move the transplanted plants frequently, and keep them sufficiently hydrated during the period.

In addition, we need to keep the soil loose and moist, and control the temperature at around 18-25℃. Do not let the Epiphyllum be exposed to direct sunlight, but do not let it be completely without light. This way, the cuttings can take root in about 20 days.
