Differences between Asters and Daisies

Differences between Asters and Daisies

1. Different plant heights

The height of the small aster is relatively tall, about 30-100 cm, and the stem is very upright.

The daisy is relatively shorter, only about 10 cm in height. By comparing the two, you can determine what kind of plant it is based on the difference in plant height.

2. Different flowers

The flowers of the small aster are slightly larger, with long peduncles. The involucral bracts on the flowers have three layers. The outer layer is oblong lanceolate or spoon-shaped, and has a leaf texture. The middle one is spoon-shaped, also relatively short, and has a thin texture. The inner layer is oblong, and has a membranous texture. The flowers have many colors.

The flowers of the daisy are relatively small, with nearly two layers of bracts. The outer petals of the flower are white, and the middle is bright yellow.

3. Different varieties

The former is also called July chrysanthemum and Jiangxi wax. It is an annual or biennial herb of the genus Aster. It is native to various provinces and cities in China and grows in shady places such as wastelands and hillsides.

The latter is quite similar to the former, and belongs to the same Asteraceae family as the former, but it is a perennial herb belonging to the genus Daisy. If you observe carefully, there are still many differences between it and the former, and you can distinguish them.
