How to grow Pyracantha

How to grow Pyracantha

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: Pyracantha does not have high requirements for soil. If you want it to grow better, it is best to use loose, slightly acidic soil containing organic matter.

2. Watering: It needs sufficient water during its growth stage and should be watered in time. It is very drought-resistant, so do not water it excessively. Drain the water in time during the rainy season to avoid flowers falling due to water accumulation. It will enter a dormant state in winter, so water it thoroughly before dormancy.

3. Light: Pyracantha is exposed to sunlight, so it is necessary to allow it to receive sufficient light, especially in autumn. Sufficient light can promote the formation of flower buds.

4. Fertilization: Fertilization should be carried out appropriately, generally once every 15-30 days. The amount of fertilizer can also be increased in autumn, generally once every 10-20 days. Fertilizers should be mainly phosphorus and potassium fertilizers, and less inorganic fertilizers should be used.

2. Breeding Methods

Cutting propagation: It can usually be carried out from November to March of the following year. Cut 12-15 cm long branches. Strong branches are more likely to survive. Insert them into the soil, exposing about 2-5 cm from the surface, and compact them with soil.

3. Common pests and diseases

1. Pyracantha is susceptible to powdery mildew, which can harm leaves and twigs. Long-term lack of light and poor ventilation can easily damage them. Once discovered, spray them with Bordeaux mixture for prevention and control.

2. It is also easily harmed by scale insects and aphids. When the pests are few, they can be captured manually. When the pests are serious, they must be sprayed with pesticides for prevention and control.
