Differences between Foxglove and Lupine

1. Different leaves

Foxglove has simple leaves, each of which is larger, about 5-15cm long, and oval or oblong in shape. Lateral buds may grow in the axils of the leaves, and only one leaf will grow on the petiole.

The flowers of lupine are obviously different. They have compound leaves, which are smaller, lanceolate to oblanceolate, relatively thin, and about 1 cm in length. There are no buds on its petiole, and there are multiple leaves on the petiole.

2. Different flowers

The flowering period of foxglove is around May and June. The petals that grow are facing downward, have spots inside, and are about 3-4.5cm long. It has many flowers, mainly in purple, brown, pink, white, yellow, etc., and the flowers are shaped like small bells.

The flowering period of lupine is relatively early, around March to May. The petals that grow are facing upwards and have no spots inside. Its flowers are also rich in colors. The most common color is goose yellow. In addition, there are brick red, red, white, light blue, pink, two-color, etc. The flower shape is a typical legume flower shape.

3. Different fruits

The fruit of foxglove is an oval capsule, about 1.5 cm long.

The fruit of lupine is in the shape of an oblong linear pod, about 2.5-5 cm long.
