The difference between bulbous begonia and regia begonia

The difference between bulbous begonia and regia begonia

1. Root Difference

Bulbous Begonia is similar to Rieger Begonia, but there are also differences. As the name suggests, the plant contains bulbs at the bottom and cannot tolerate waterlogging during maintenance.

The base of the Regis Begonia plant is made of fibrous roots and does not have bulbous roots, but this is difficult to distinguish and the plant needs to be pulled out to see it.

2. Flower Differences

The flowers of the former are more lush and beautiful when they bloom. After blooming, the flowers are relatively large and round in shape. You can tell the difference by putting the two together. This plant has both female and male flowers, and the two flower shapes are slightly different. The male flowers are relatively large, while the female flowers are relatively small. The colors of the flowers are also quite diverse, including white, red, pink, purple, etc.

The flowers of the latter are smaller, more flat and round in shape, and do not look as plump. The flower colors include red, orange, yellow, white, etc. However, its flowering period is relatively long, lasting from December to April of the following year.

3. Leaf Difference

The leaves of the former are not so round, have irregular shapes, and are lighter in color.

The leaves of the latter appear rounder and are relatively regular heart-shaped. The leaves are dark green in color and have a relatively smooth, waxy surface.
