Yew cultivation methods and precautions

Yew cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: It has very strong cold resistance and can withstand temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. If it is the purple yew in the Northeast, April to October is its growing season. During this period, the temperature should be controlled below 30 degrees, and the night temperature should be controlled below 25 degrees.

2. Watering: The plant consumes a lot of water during the germination period. If there is drought, manual watering is needed once every ten days to half a month. If it is a plant that is afraid of potted maintenance, it needs to be watered every week. For plants maintained in the open field, drainage needs to be done during the rainy season to prevent waterlogging at the roots of the plants.

3. Fertilization: If it is a potted plant, you need to use decomposed fertilizer cake water when fertilizing. During the growth period, you need to use 1:10-1:15 alum fertilizer water. The interval between fertilization is thirty days. If the plant needs to be repotted, base fertilizer should be mixed into the soil when repotting, which will help the growth of the plant.

4. Light: Yew is a slow-growing tree species that is more adaptable to semi-shady environments. It likes to live in warm and humid environments and does not like to live in places with long light hours and high light intensity. Seedlings grown from seeds, in particular, need shade and maintenance. It is more susceptible to astigmatism, and the lighting time should be maintained at five hours a day.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: It can be propagated using ovules. First, you need to collect the ripe fruits, put them in a pot, mix them with coarse sand and water, let the ovules remove the skin, and then mix the ovules into the wet sand and store them for one year to allow the germination rate to reach more than 80%. After completing the above steps, you can start sowing the seeds, level the seedling base, and start row sowing with a row spacing of 20 cm. After sowing, cover with a thin layer of soil and then with straw. This will allow it to survive the winter smoothly and germinate next year. After the seedlings grow four leaves, you can thin them out, that is, pull out the seedlings that are not growing well. In May, you need to start applying top dressing, once a month, and they can be transplanted after a year.

2. Planting: When winter is almost over, start to customize the planting holes according to the row spacing of 2*2 meters and the depth of 80 cm. When planting, make sure the seedlings are straight and the roots are stretched. When backfilling the soil, just compact it.

3. Problem Diagnosis

1. Pests: Generally speaking, pests such as aphids and mites like to parasitize on plants the most. If you find them, you should spray the plants with pesticides in time to kill them.

2. Diseases: During the growth period, the leaves of the plant are prone to withering and root rot. If found, it needs to be transplanted as soon as possible to avoid further infection.

IV. Other issues

1. Edibility: Not edible.

2. Toxicity: non-toxic.
