How to prune vinca roseus

Catharanthus roseus is a herbaceous plant suitable for potted plants. However, it should be noted that the plant should not be allowed to grow too tall so as not to affect interior decoration and appreciation. Therefore, after it is potted and survives, it needs to be pinched several times to promote more branches and flowering of Catharanthus roseus. The remaining flowers need to be cut off after flowering.

In addition, it is necessary to prune insect branches and strengthen fertilizer and water management. When pruning in winter and summer, insect-infested and dead branches should be heavily pruned. At the same time, we should strengthen fertilizer and water management to promote the growth of new shoots of Catharanthus roseus, renew the crown, and restore tree vigor.

Pinching of Catharanthus roseus

In addition to normal fertilizer and water management, the focus is on pinching and preventing and controlling stem and leaf rot during the rainy season. The purpose of pinching is to promote the branching of vinca roseus and control the flowering period. Generally, pinching starts when there are 4 to 6 true leaves, and the second pinching is done when the new shoots grow 4 to 6 leaves. It is best not to pinch more than 3 times.

The last pinching directly affects the flowering period. Generally speaking, the last pinching in autumn should be 25 days away from the initial flowering period, and the last pinching in summer should be 3 to 5 days earlier than in autumn.

Catharanthus roseus does not need to be topped, but in order to obtain a better plant shape, it is best to top it once or twice. The first time is when there are 3 to 4 pairs of true leaves; the second time, the new branches have 1 to 2 pairs of true leaves. During the cultivation process, regulators can usually be used, but paclobutrazol cannot be applied.
