How to raise Rhododendron chinense

How to raise Rhododendron chinense

1. Breeding environment

1. Soil: It likes slightly acidic, loose and fertile soil. When caring for it, you can mix it with leaf mold, coarse sand, garden soil, etc. Before potting it, add an appropriate amount of base fertilizer to supplement its nutrients, so that it can meet its later growth needs.

2. Light: Give it enough sunlight during the growth period so that the flowers will bloom more brightly. The light in spring is mild and can be placed outdoors in the sun for a long time. In summer, the light is too strong and the temperature is too high, so it is necessary to shade it in time and move it to a cool place to avoid sunburn.

3. Watering: The soil in the pot should be moist before flowering, but no water should accumulate. In hot seasons, water the plants every day and increase the humidity. When the temperature drops in autumn, you should reduce the amount of water, and control water even more in winter.

4. Fertilization: Apply fertilizer in small amounts and multiple times. Apply phosphorus fertilizer once a month in spring to promote flowering. Nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers should be applied after the flowering period, and fertilizers should be controlled in summer to avoid root rot. There is no need to apply fertilizer in winter as the plants have stopped growing and do not need excessive nutrients.

2. Breeding Methods

There are two ways of propagation: sowing and cuttings. Sowing is done in spring. Just sow the seeds on suitable soil and keep them in a shady and humid environment. They will germinate in less than a month. Cutting propagation is more commonly used, usually in May and June. Semi-woody new branches are used as cuttings and inserted into acidic soil. They will soon take root and survive. The survival rate is high and the method is simple.
