How to propagate bougainvillea

How to propagate bougainvillea

1. Cutting propagation

When doing cuttings, you need to prepare in advance. The first is the soil. You can prepare sandy soil, or you can add some perlite or peat to the soil. Then prepare the flower pots, ordinary plastic pots or ceramic pots will do. The last thing to prepare and the most important thing in the cutting process is the branches. You should choose healthy branches that grew that year.

Insert the branch 7-8 cm into the soil, leaving the part with leaves exposed outside the soil. After the cuttings are completed, water the plant enough, then cover the outside of the flowerpot with plastic wrap to prevent water loss, and finally place the flowerpot in a location with scattered light.

2. High-pressure breeding

①The advantage of this method is that it is easier to survive. Branches that grow new roots can generally grow into new plants if you cut them off and plant them, as long as the roots are not damaged. Another advantage is that it is easier to shape. The branches propagated by high pressure can be planted in new pots. As long as they are pruned properly, they will soon grow into beautiful bonsai flowers.

②First, use a knife to cut the outer skin about 3 mm wide about two inches above the place where the branch that needs high pressure is connected to the mother plant. Cover the branches with soil, then wrap them in a plastic bag, and tie the two ends of the plastic bag tightly to prevent water loss. If the soil becomes dry, it should be replenished with water in time. After about a month, you can see many roots growing on the branches. At this time, you can cut the branches and plant them.
