Plantago cultivation methods and precautions

Plantago cultivation methods and precautions

1. Maintenance methods

1. Soil: Plantain likes to grow in relatively loose and well-drained soil. When preparing the soil, it is best to add an appropriate amount of coarse sand and sawdust to increase the drainage and looseness of the soil.

2. Temperature: Plantain is native to tropical regions, where the temperature of its growth environment is relatively high. Normally, it requires a higher temperature during breeding. Temperatures of 20℃ and above are more suitable for its growth, but during the high temperatures in summer, it needs to be placed in a cool and ventilated place for maintenance.

3. Watering: Water it as much as possible. It is native to the humid and hot environment of tropical regions. You can water it more often, but be careful not to let water accumulate in the soil. In winter, reduce the amount and frequency of watering.

4. Light: It likes a sunny growing environment and can be given full-day sunshine except in summer. In summer, remember to spray water around to keep it moisturized, and provide adequate shade during consecutive hot weather.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Sowing: Before sowing, you need to remove the outer layer of the seeds, and then prepare fertile sandy loam for sowing. It is more appropriate to sow in spring March and April. After sowing, just water it.

2. Reproduction: It mostly propagates by seeds. After its spike inflorescence matures, its seeds will naturally crack. After that, just collect the seeds and sow and plant them.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Powdery mildew: Powdery mildew is one of the more common diseases of Plantain. In the early stage of the disease, it is necessary to use 1000 times diluted 50% thiophanate methyl spray for treatment in time.

2. Brown spot disease: Seeds need to be disinfected with drugs before sowing. After the disease occurs, the diseased leaves should be cut off in time and sprayed with carbendazim solution for treatment.

IV. Other issues

1. Can it be grown indoors? Plantain is not very suitable for indoor cultivation. It requires a high temperature and high humidity environment for its growth, and it is difficult to meet such requirements at indoor temperatures.

2. Can it be eaten: Plantain seeds are rich in dietary fiber and can be eaten.
