How to grow autumn peony

How to grow autumn peony

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: Autumn peony is very cold-resistant and can survive the winter outdoors under normal circumstances. It can also grow normally in the northern winter. However, it is not very resistant to high temperatures. If the temperature in summer exceeds 30 degrees, it will easily die, so it needs to be cooled or moved to a cool place in summer.

2. Watering: Be sure to meet its preference for moist conditions. When it is just planted, it needs water the most, so watering must be frequent. However, during the growth period, you can water it in small amounts. Watering once every two days will be enough. You can stop watering in winter, or water once a month.

3. Light: Autumn peony is a light-loving plant. If there is sufficient light, the flowers will bloom more vividly and the colors will be more charming. If there is not enough light, the number of flowers will be reduced.

4. Fertilization: Apply diluted nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium compound fertilizer every month during the growing season. When flower buds appear, stop applying nitrogen fertilizer and only apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. After winter, since the plant has entered a dormant state, you should stop fertilizing and just carry out normal maintenance next year.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Division is the main method of reproduction. For division, you need to choose a mother plant without disease, then pick off the small plants around it and wait until the wound is completely healed before replanting. After planting, pay attention to watering and temperature, and it will take root and sprout quickly.

2. Pruning: In winter, the whole plant has aged and dried up, so it needs to be cut neatly to ensure growth and germination in the next year.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: Rust may occur and can be controlled by spraying diluted wettable powder.

2. Pests: Aphids will occur and will bite the branches, leaves and flower buds, seriously disfiguring the appearance. You can spray a dichlorvos solution.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is not poisonous and has medicinal value, so you can raise it with confidence.

2. Can it be raised at home? Yes, it has high ornamental value and can also improve one’s health and well-being.
