Edamame can be planted in spring and summer. In summer, it is sown from early February to early March, and in summer, it is sown from late April to mid-May. Edamame is divided into three types: indeterminate growth type, finite growth type and semi-indeterminate growth type. The indeterminate growth type is mainly planted in the north, the finite growth type is mainly planted in the south, and the semi-indeterminate growth type can be planted in both the north and the south.

Edamame harvest season

Early-maturing edamame is harvested and put on the market from late May to late June, mid-maturing edamame matures from early July to early August, and late-maturing edamame matures and is harvested from late September to late October. The yield per mu is generally around 1,500 jin.

Steps and methods of growing edamame

1. Seed selection: Choose early-maturing, multi-branched edamame varieties. Choose early-maturing varieties for planting in the south, and late-maturing varieties for planting in the north;

2. Land preparation: The selected land should not have been used to grow edamame within 2-3 years. Before planting, the soil should be deeply plowed, basal fertilizer should be applied, and a 1.1-1.2m wide field should be dug out;

3. Sowing: Place 2-3 early-maturing edamame seeds in each hole, with a row spacing of about 25-27 cm and a plant spacing of about 6-10 cm; place 2-3 late-maturing edamame seeds in each hole, with a row spacing of about 33-40 cm and a plant spacing of about 6-10 cm.
