How to grow red-backed osmanthus

How to grow red-backed osmanthus

1. Maintenance methods

1. Temperature: The cold resistance of Red-backed Osmanthus is not very high, so you need to keep warm in winter. The normal growth temperature is between 15℃ and 25℃. The temperature also needs to be kept above 15 degrees in winter. If it is below 5 degrees, it will easily get frostbite.

2. Watering: Red-backed osmanthus likes a moist growing environment, and the soil cannot be too dry. Generally, it needs to be watered every seven to ten days. Each time you water it, the amount of water should be sufficient. Do not water it only half way, it needs to be watered thoroughly, but there should be no accumulation of water, because its growth is relatively dense, if there is accumulation of water, the roots will easily rot.

3. Light: Red-backed osmanthus has a certain resistance, so it cannot be directly exposed to strong light in the summer, but it cannot without light. Warm scattered light can make it grow well, so it only needs four to six hours of light a day.

4. Fertilization: During the growth process, fertilization needs to be decided based on the growth conditions of the plants. If enough base fertilizer has been applied before planting, there is no need to continue fertilizing. If no base fertilizer is applied, the plant will not grow well due to insufficient nutrients. At this time, additional fertilizer will be needed every month.

2. Breeding techniques

1. Reproduction: Cutting is the main method of reproduction, which needs to be carried out from March to April. Choose two to three years old branches for direct cuttings. The branches should be kept at about ten centimeters.

2. Pruning: As an ornamental plant in the garden, the red-backed laurel needs to be pruned from time to time to maximize its ornamental value. Pruning can also control the height and cut off some branches and leaves that have no ornamental value.

3. Problem diagnosis and treatment

1. Disease: Leaf blight will occur. Red-backed osmanthus is a foliage ornamental plant. If the branches and leaves are affected, it will not be able to play its own role, so wettable powder is needed to control it.

2. Pests: Nematodes will appear and can be completely eliminated by turning the soil, or by spraying carbendazim solution on the soil.

IV. Other issues

1. Toxicity: It is poisonous. The whole plant is poisonous. Its juice and leaves promote cancer, so be careful not to eat it by mistake.

2. Can it be grown at home: Not suitable, it is generally planted as an ornamental plant in the garden.
