How to prune the roots of dragon bamboo

Does Dragon Bamboo need root pruning?

If the dragon bamboo has too many roots, it can be pruned appropriately, but not too much, so as not to affect the normal growth of the roots and be detrimental to the growth of the plant.

If it is hydroponic Dragon Bamboo, root pruning is generally not recommended. The presence of numerous lateral roots can absorb more nutrients and enable the plant to grow well.

As for the dragon bamboo just bought online, we can cut off all its lateral roots and keep the healthy main root. Then replant it in a container, place it in a place with scattered light and take good care of it. Wait for it to grow new roots and then you can maintain it normally.

Root pruning and potting of dragon bamboo

1. Root cultivation in water: The dragon bamboo needs to be placed in water for maintenance first so that it can quickly grow new roots. The leaves at the bottom should be cut off, and then the cuttings should be inserted into the water after the wound heals and dries. Change the water in time to keep the water clean and maintain a suitable temperature of 20-25℃. After 20-30 days, the dragon bamboo will grow new roots.

2. Dehydration and root pruning: When the hydroponic dragon bamboo grows to a height of 4 cm, you can start root pruning. Just trim off the rotten roots and then soak them in a solution of carbendazim for about 10 to 15 minutes, then take them out and dry them.

3. Root washing : After pruning the roots of the dragon bamboo, it needs to be soaked in a solution of carbendazim for disinfection, usually for about 15 minutes.

4. Prepare the potting soil: To cultivate the dragon bamboo, you need to prepare loose, breathable soil and a flower pot of suitable size. A mixture of garden soil and fine sand in equal amounts can meet the growth needs of the dragon bamboo. You also need to choose a shallow and breathable ceramic pot to allow the dragon bamboo to grow better.

5. Transplant into pots: After the roots of the dragon bamboo are trimmed, it needs to be placed in a cool, well-ventilated place for half a day, and then it can be potted after the wounds heal. Directly cut the treated dragon bamboo into the soil that is 1/2 full of the flower pot, and then water it to keep the soil moist.

Dragon bamboo root pruning and potting maintenance

1. Watering : After changing the pot for the Dragon Bamboo, place the changed pot in a well-ventilated place. Do not water it at this time, as this will cause the roots of the plant to rot. You need to wait 4-5 days before watering it. When watering, you need to water it thoroughly, and then you need to wait until the soil in the pot is dry before watering.

2. Sunbathing : Dragon bamboo needs to be exposed to sunlight at least 20-30 days after repotting. Therefore, if the plant is still in a hot weather during the season of repotting, it is easy to cause dehydration and death. Sunbathing at this time can easily cause dehydration and dryness. It is best to wait until it adapts to the pot and then expose it to the sun properly. Under normal circumstances, after 20 days, it can be exposed to the morning and evening sun for half an hour to help it resume growth.
