How to prune potted forsythia and why it doesn't bear fruit

How to prune potted forsythia and why it doesn't bear fruit

1. How to trim

Forsythia has a relatively strong germination ability and needs to be pruned frequently during potted cultivation. Normally, if you find diseased branches, weak branches, or overgrown branches, you should cut them off in time to save nutrients, increase internal light transmittance, and promote better and faster growth. When new branches sprout in spring every year, if you find branches that are too dense, you should also cut them off from the base.

If you have maintained it for about three years and want to shape it, you must trim it regularly to get the shape you want. Its branches sprout quickly and the shape is easy to form.

2. Why no results?

1. Low fruit-bearing rate due to self-pollination: The failure of potted Forsythia to bear fruit is most likely caused by self-pollination, and the fruit-bearing rate is only about 4%. Only cross-pollination will have a higher fruit-bearing rate, but cross-pollination is difficult to carry out when growing at home. If you want a higher fruit-bearing rate, you need to promote cross-pollination. Plants with long styles and plants with short styles should be planted separately to promote cross-pollination.

2. Improper pruning: It has a strong germination ability. If it is not pruned in time, there will be many long branches that absorb a large amount of nutrients, which will cause the nutrients to disperse and the fruiting rate will be reduced. Reasonable pruning should be carried out to remove weak branches and overgrown branches, leaving only strong branches.
