4 factors for managing the flowering period of azalea, indoor azalea flowering period management

1. Adequate sunlight

The light intensity of azalea changes before and after flowering. When the flower buds just appear, the lighting time should be appropriately extended, but after they swell, the light should be appropriately reduced. Too much light can damage the flowers, so they need adequate shade. Long-term lack of light will delay flowering, so it cannot be kept indoors all the time.

2. Watering in moderation

Rhododendrons also have a high demand for water during the flowering period. This is because it blooms a lot, so the amount of water it needs naturally increases. Insufficient water can cause the flowers to wilt a bit and the petals to fade. When watering, be careful not to let the water drop onto the flower, as this will cause internal rot and shorten its life.

3. Temperature control

The temperature during the flowering period should be kept at around 10-15℃, and should not be lower than 5℃ at night. Too high a temperature will result in fewer flower buds, while too low a temperature will result in no flowering. Therefore, maintaining this temperature can effectively extend the flowering period.

4. Pest and disease control

Because the soil is moist for a long time, it is easy to cause various diseases and insect pests. The most common is blossom end rot, which shortens the flowering period and can lead to further diseases such as rot. Diseased and dead flowers should be removed promptly, and sprayed with mancozeb solution for prevention and control. For pests such as red spiders and armyworms, it is necessary to spray them with omethoate solution.
