How to prune Panlonggui, pruning and shaping methods and techniques

When is the best time to prune Panlonggui

Panlongxiang is resistant to pruning and is evergreen all year round. The best time to prune is from January to February when the tree is dormant. Minor pruning can be done all year round.

Pruning techniques for Panlonggui

Pruning and shaping: The shaping can be done according to your own preferences. You can use thinner wire to make a nice shape. Just tie its branches and wire together. Be careful not to tie it too tightly to avoid harming the growth of the plant.

Pruning branches and leaves: When pruning, except for those with poor tree and branch growth, thinning is generally the main method. Only the overcrowded outer branches are appropriately thinned out, and the overgrown branches and diseased and insect-infested branches are cut off to improve the ventilation and light transmission conditions of the plant. The sprouting branches from the base of the trunk should be removed in time to avoid consuming nutrients in the tree and disturbing the tree shape.

Pruning makes the plant grow faster: When pruning, you need to first remove some useless branches and leaves. If there are diseased branches, yellow leaves, etc. on the plant, they should all be pruned away.

Pruning is necessary for flowering: The best time to prune is in autumn after the shoots emerge. Generally, overgrown branches, thin branches, diseased and insect-infested branches should be cut off to facilitate ventilation and light transmission, concentrate nutrients, and encourage osmanthus to produce more and fuller flower buds, so that it can bloom profusely.

Precautions for pruning Panlonggui

The whole plant of Panlongxiang is poisonous, and the symptoms are similar to those of sea guava poisoning, so be sure to wear gloves when pruning to prevent the juice from touching your skin.
