How to grow Kalanchoe

How to grow Kalanchoe

1. Breeding methods

1. Sunlight: Kalanchoe needs long-term sunlight. It should not be less than 4 hours a day, and can be placed under diffuse light for a long time so that it will not be exposed to the sun, and it can also grow healthily. If there is not enough light, the stems will be very thin, the leaves will be very thin, and there will be few flowers.

2. Soil: Kalanchoe is not very demanding on the soil. Generally, sandy soil can be used. If the soil itself has average drainage capacity, you can loosen the soil regularly to improve it artificially.

3. Watering: Do not water Kalanchoe too much. The soil needs to be kept dry, especially during the rainy season or when the air humidity is high, water must be strictly controlled. Generally, water it 2-3 times a month, but you should water it more often during the high temperatures in summer to avoid water shortage on the leaves.

4. Fertilization: Kalanchoe needs sufficient fertilizer during its growth period. Generally, it is applied 1-2 times a month, using a mixture of animal manure and water-fertilizer. Compound fertilizer can also be used, but an appropriate amount of urea must be added.

2. Breeding techniques

The main method of propagation of Kalanchoe is cuttings. It can be carried out in spring, summer and autumn. Choose stems and branches with appropriate length and more than 3 leaf nodes. Insert the seeds into sandy soil and provide adequate shade. They will take root in half a month.

3. Pest and disease control

1. Diseases: Stem rot, leaf blight and gray mold are relatively common and require prevention and control with pesticides such as carbendazim.

2. Pests: Pests are basically scale insects, which can be brushed off with a small brush and the larvae can be killed with imidacloprid.
