Green radish cultivation methods and techniques

Green radish cultivation methods and techniques

Green ivy, also known as golden pothos and devil's ivy, is a common indoor foliage plant. It is widely loved for its strong air purification ability and high ornamental value. The green ivy needs moderate watering, but it does not need frequent watering. Let’s learn about the cultivation methods and techniques of green radish.

1. Lighting

Pothos is a shade-tolerant plant and is suitable for growing in a diffuse light environment. Avoid direct sunlight, otherwise the leaves may be sunburned. When there is insufficient light, the color of the leaves may become lighter or yellow. At this time, you can move it to a location with slightly better light, but do not expose it to direct sunlight. When there is sufficient light, the leaves will be greener and grow more vigorously.

2. Temperature

Pothos is suitable for growing in a warm environment, with the optimum temperature being 15℃-0℃. The temperature in winter should not be lower than 10℃, otherwise it may suffer frost damage. You can move it to a warmer place indoors, away from air conditioning vents or radiators. During the high temperatures in summer, pay attention to ventilation and cooling, and avoid prolonged exposure to an environment above 35°C.

3. Watering

Pothos likes moisture, but avoids stagnant water. Just keep the soil moist, but avoid waterlogging which can cause root rot. Generally water 1-2 times a week, and the specific frequency needs to be adjusted according to the season and ambient humidity. The frequency of watering can be increased appropriately in summer and reduced in winter. Insert your finger 2-3 cm into the soil. If it feels dry, water it; if it is moist, hold off on watering.

4. Soil

The soil requirements of Chlorophytum are not high, but loose, breathable and well-drained soil is preferred. You can use leaf mold, garden soil and river sand mixed in a ratio of 2:1:1. Place a layer of crushed tiles or expanded clay at the bottom of the pot to enhance drainage and prevent water accumulation.

5. Fertilization

During the peak growth period of Chlorophytum cochinchinensis (spring and summer), apply dilute liquid fertilizer once a month, such as decomposed cake fertilizer water or compound fertilizer solution. When applying fertilizer, avoid direct contact between the fertilizer and the leaves or roots to avoid burning the roots. Fertilizer can be diluted and poured into the soil. Growth is slow in winter, so the frequency of fertilization can be reduced or even stopped.

6. Pruning

Regular pruning can promote the branching of the green radish, making the plant more lush, while removing yellow leaves and reducing the occurrence of diseases and pests. Use clean scissors to cut off yellow leaves and overly long branches. When pruning, be sure to retain aerial roots, as they help absorb moisture and nutrients from the air.

In short, green ivy is a very easy plant to maintain. As long as you master the above methods and techniques, you can make it thrive. In addition, wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and maintain the leaves' ability to photosynthesize.
